The Portneuf Range, located in Southeast Idaho, is another treasure for us here in Pocatello. Unknown to most people outside of Idaho, it runs north to south for about 60 miles, starting at the north near Blackfoot and Pocatello and ending to the south near Preston.
Providing year round recreation for locals, the Portneuf Range is a great escape. If you like to hike in solitude, spring and summer are the perfect time because you will see fewer people on the trails. Because of the wild life it is also great for fall hunting. The peaks are often climbed during winter months. There is even a yurt system* for over night stays. Reservations are required.
