Great resource. Do you plan to cover western lakes in Idaho or can you point me to a resource for ice and fishing conditions in the Western part of the state?

BEN–USUALLY AROUND MID MARCH. I DON’T DOUBT THERE IS SOME OPEN WATER WAY UP ON THE UPPER END, BUT GETTING TO IT THROUGH THE SNOW WOULD NOT BE FUN. HOPEFULLY BY APRIL FOOL’S DAY.

Mackay has been horrible for every one I have talked to. Came back one day early on a 3 day trip. Only had 4 bites and no fish in two full days of fishing. Hope it picks up.

any reports on the kokanee fishing at Mackay reservoir. Are they biting at all. How much snow is in the campground. Can you park a camper there as I usually like to spend 3 days up there. Thanks for any reply

the kokanee fishing has been very good and the size is bigger than usual. most people are fishing the bay by the campground, although some people are fishing on the other side as well. if you want trout they are catching them as well. I do not have any info on snow amount or if the campground is open for camping in the winter! thank you John t.

THE LAST INFO I RECIEVED IS THAT DANIEL’S HAS BEEN PRETTY GOOD. SMALL FLASHY JIGS AND DARK LEECH-LIKE JIGS HAVE BEEN EFFECTIVE. ICE IS 5-10 INCHES THICK. I DO NOT KNOW HOW MUCH SNOW IS UP THERE. OR HOW MUCH IS ON THE ICE. THE ROAD SHOULD BE PLOWED UP TO THE TURN OFF. THANKS JOHN T.

DUSTIN—-THE ROAD IS USUALLY PLOWED UP TO THE DAM AND ON TOP UP TO PARKING AREA ON TOP OF DAM. THE ROAD ON UP TO CAMPGROUND CAN BE PRETTY IFFY UP FROM DAM. YOU CAN GET ACCESS BY COMING DOWN FROM BACKWATERS AT LEAST DOWN TO THE HOT SPRINGS. BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN ICE FISHING ONEIDA RESERVOIR, THE WATER LEVEL FLUCTUATES DUE TO POWER GENERATION, I HAVE TALKED TO FISHERMEN WHO DRILLED A HOLE AND THE WATER WAS 1-6 FEET BELOW THE ICE. PRETTY SCARY TO ME!!! BE VERY CAREFUL IT CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS !!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the compliment. There is still some ice on all three of those places but is quickly getting thinner. Probably 0 to 2 inches as of today. Sorry for the slow reply.

Took a trip yesterday, suffering from cabin fever, went southand looked at the waterways.
twin lakes unsafe and melted about 20 feet from ice, weston the same, deep creek, the same, devels creek same, the north end of these lakes are open for about 20 yards? Hawkins pretty much the same,I think thats it for the season, time to wax the boat.

deep creek does not have LMB in it hasnt for 5+ years now.. 24mile doesnt have brook hasnt for a few years now.. they quit stocking them in the mid 90’s. condie doesnt have rainbows hasnt since it was last drained 10 years ago… and condie will be very poor fishing.. this year twin lakes canal company drained condie to a mud puddle and the pelicans and other birds had there way with what fish didnt get sucked down the canal… there are also SMB in axander.. not trying to pick every thing apart here, but there are some mistaked that need to be fixed so people dont try to fish for somthing that isnt there…. also if you want to catch the big trout out of chesterfield or deep creek, fish a Cut’r bug black leech or changable craw 1.5″ tipped with a crawler, bounced off bottom. http://www.maniaccustomlures.com is where you will find that bait..

Chesterfield has been pretty steady. Fish caught on Mill worms. typical sizes are around 10 inches. They are real soft biters though have to be on top of your game.

David McPherson comments are pretty accurate. If you could get into Lamont it is good fishing, but the roads are all snowed in. Twin Lakes has enough water, just no fish. Drought conditions are probably the cause. Condie seems to have only a few fish for the same reason and the road is also snowed in now. Weston is very spotty. Occasionally you can get into some nice perch. There are some good sized trout and the bass are around 12-15 inches now.
