Emma’s Basic Tips for Camp Cooking

May 13, 2013 by Tyson Gunter Leave a Comment

Check out our Camping Cook Book for lots of great recipes perfect for the outdoors.

Plan ways to share the shopping and cooking, and involve campers of all ages.

Calculate servings knowing your campers

Plan the menus, make a list, and shop ahead:

Dried and canned foods early, marked for use

Meats pre-prepared if appropriate and frozen

Dairy, fruits, veggies, and breads last

Pre-prepare and/or pre-package everything possible to

reduce space, waste and save time at camp

Set up a hand-wash station in the camp kitchen                requiring helpers to use it frequently and all       campers to wash before eating!

A pre-wash bucket works great for preparation and        meal-time clean-up.  Scrape into it and strain

the debris to put into the garbage.

Use a 3-bucket wash system:  hot soapy wash, hot rinse,              1 tbsp.chlorine bleach/gallon water soak, and    air dry to eliminate outside contamination.

It’s about having fun and sharing — ENJOY!
